Bulgarian wine might feel esoteric but as recently as the 1980s, the country was the fourth largest exporter of wine to the UK. This Gamza / Cabernet Franc is an excellent introduction to contemporary winemaking in the country. Bononia Estate was established in 2013 on the shores of the Danube and has built a firm reputation for fruit forward and characterful wines. It’s full of crushed red berries and subtle herbal complexity and is recommended served slightly chilled.
